Boston College running back Andre Williams was named one of six finalists for the Heisman Trophy and will travel to New York City for the announcement on Saturday at 8 p.m.

Williams, the nation’s leading rusher, will be joined by Northern Illinois quarterback Jordan Lynch, Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel, Auburn running back Tre Mason, Alabama QB A.J. McCarron and Florida State QB Jameis Winston.

Williams has rushed for 2,102 yards in 12 games, the ninth most productive rushing season in NCAA history. He leads the nation with 175.2 yards per game.

Only one other BC player has been invited to the Heisman Trophy presentation: 1984 winner Doug Flutie. In addition to Flutie, who also came in third in 1983, three other Eagles have finished in the top 10: Mike Holovak (fourth in 1942), Glenn Foley (fifth in 1993) and Matt Ryan (seventh in 2007).

Williams has helped BC to a 7-5 record (4-4 ACC). He has one more game to play in his college career, against Arizona in the AdvoCare V100 Bowl on Dec. 31 in Shreveport, La.
